Albany Chicago- Style Steppers is a community organization that teaches and promotes Steppin' in New York's Capital Region (Albany/ Schenectady/Troy). Steppin’ originated in Chicago’s African-American community. It is an improvisational form of partner dancing with its roots in such dance styles as the Chicago Bop, the Lindy Hop and Western Swing. It is a smooth calm dance of striding, gliding, dipping, and dabbing to music by popular African American big bands and singing groups during the late 50’s and early 60’s and more recently, R and B , Soul and Neo Soul .
